Of the three, the Daisho-in Course offers the nicest views and is not as steep as the other two. The Momijidani Course, while the shortest, is also the steepest, leading mostly through the forest. Using any course, it takes 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit from town.

The ropeway station is a ten minute walk inland from Itsukushima Shrine or a 20 minute walk from the Miyajima ferry pier. The ride up the mountain takes about 20 minutes and requires a transfer of ropeways along the way.

  1. NIJO CASTLE

HOW TO GO  -> Kyoto City Bus  <-

HOW TO USE
The City Bus’s all-day pass is only valid for the City Bus, which are mostly green colored. Other private buses are not spotted often and they usually have red line. To use the Pass for the first time of the day, you put it through the printer beside the driver as you get off to mark the date of use. Then you just show a driver the Pass when using for the second time. Major bus stations have signs noticing an approach of the next bus.USEFUL LINES
Buses of three digits number are normally faster then two digits and sometimes skip minor stations. Besides, RAKU BUS are particularly convenient for tourists to visit popular temples in the city. The following three lines are most frequently used by tourists.

#100 Kyoto Station – Sanjusangen-do Temple – Kiyomizu-dera Temple – Ginkakuji Temple – Nanzenji Temple
#101 Kyoto Station – Nijo-jo Castle – Kinkakuji Temple
#102 Ginkakuji Temple – Kinkakuji Temple

~ SHOPPING NEAR HOSTEL Shinkyogoku Street

DAY 11 - SATURDAY 05 DEC -   KYOTO BAKPAK HOSTEL

GO TO FUSHIMI - INARI

Fushimi Inari Shrine is located just outside JR Inari Station, the second station from Kyoto  Station along the JR Nara Line (5 minutes, 140 yen one way from Kyoto Station, not served by rapid trains but we are not paying coz we have the JR pass). The shrine can also be reached in a short walk from Fushimi Inari Station along the Keihan Main Line.

Fushimi Inari is an important Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto. It is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings. The trails lead into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari, which stands at 233 meters and belongs to the shrine grounds. It  is the most important of several thousands of shrines dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice. Foxes are thought to be Inari's messengers, resulting in many fox statues across the shrine grounds.

While the primary reason most foreign visitors come to Fushimi Inari Shrine is to explore the mountain trails, the shrine buildings themselves are also attractive and worth a visit. At the shrine's entrance stands the Romon Gate, which was donated in 1589 by the famous leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Behind stands the shrine's main building (Honden) and various auxiliary buildings.

At the very back of the shrine's main grounds is the entrance to the torii gate covered hiking trail, which starts with two dense, parallel rows of gates called Senbon Torii ("thousands of torii gates"). The torii gates along the entire trail are donations by individuals and companies, and you will find the donator's name and the date of the donation inscribed on the back of each gate. The cost starts around 400,000 yen for a small sized gate and increases to over one million yen for a large gate.

The hike to the summit of the mountain and back takes about 2-3 hours…. Hmmm… my legs starts weakling….TURN BACK….. lols.

*****SAGANO TOROKKO try to get this when you reach Kyoto
The Sagano Scenic Railway is a great way to enjoy the natural beauty of western Kyoto, which is mostly known for the Arashiyama area. Known also as the Sagano Torokko or Sagano Romantic Train, this retrofited old-fashioned stream train takes you beyond Arashiyama for a perfect escape from the busy cities and crowded spots of the rest of Japan.
